CASE STUDY # 1 – Hospital
Size:  Three Hospitals (681 total beds)
Project Description:  SWS overhauled the waste and recycling program at all three (3) hospitals. This included medical waste, solid waste and recycling activities. After conducting a waste audit and writing up a comprehensive waste audit report, SWS met with the client’s Environmental Team, reviewed the report with the client and agreed upon a plan of action to reduce waste volumes. SWS began an intensive training and education program for over 5,000 nurses and other caregivers. At the same time, different processes and practices were improved, including the reorganization of the space allocated to waste and recycling.
Result:  Savings for all 3 hospitals to surpass $150,000 per year.

CASE STUDY # 2 – Hospital
Size:  588 beds
Project Description:  SWS analyzed and reconfigured the recycling program at this major Hospital (4 million sq. feet) in Chicago. SWS conducted a waste audit and wrote a comprehensive waste audit report for the building management. After our customer agreed to the report findings and recommendations, SWS implemented the plan that included, continuous training and education of environmental services staff. The results were an increase in recycling volumes, in both office paper (25%) and cardboard (15%).
Result:  Prior to SWSs’ involvement the hospital was paying to have the cardboard removed and now will begin to receive money for the bales produced. Savings for this facility will top $75,000 annually.
